Born in the "Town of Chinese Painting", Jieyang City, Guangdong Province, Liping Zheng studied mechanical engineering and received a BS from the South China University of Technology. He later majored in economics and corporate governance, earning an MBA from Sun Yat-Sen University. Mr. Zheng went on to further his studies in public administration in the USA, earning MPA degree (Mason Fellow) from Harvard and crowned his academic pursuits with a PhD degree in Economics from Nankai University. Mr. Zheng has been consistently involved in both academics and the arts, serving as a guest researcher and guest professor in public management at several top universities. Liping Zheng is also a council member of the Chinese Painting Institute, member of the China Artists Association, and professor of Rong Bao Zhai Institute of Painting. He is currently an advisor of the South Asia Department at Asian Development Bank.
Initiated into the realm of art while in his early teens, Mr. Zheng derives his inspiration from traditional Chinese painting. Almost, all his spare time and energy has been devoted to the brush, with which he has built an indissoluble bond. One of the prominent features that characterize Zheng's art works is his contemporary esthetic properties realized through the traditional use of brushes and inks.
One fascinating character of Zheng's art is that he succeeded in absorbing nutrition from tradition then got rid of the doctrine of the traditional methodology. He has roamed from the "realm of necessity" into the "kingdom of freedom." His success in studying the predecessors provided him with an overwhelming mastery of the brush and ink. Combining his great vision of beauty and multi-cultural background, he subtly translates the beauty of Mother Nature into his own version of expression. Liping's success is properly illustrated by Shi Tao's famous saying, "A methodology yet unprecedented is the finest."
Many of these works are fraught with rugged elegance and virility; others with gentle and dainty charm. Mr. Zheng's art ranges across scenes of ease and tranquility to romantic beauty. His creativity flows across the traditional spectrum with three-dimensional richness while leaving ample room for fanciful flights of imagination. Whatever the form of expression, these artistic creations have an uplifting vigor and passionate vitality.
